Independent Development Consultant
Sehoai Santho is currently an Independent Development Consultant. His Professional experience covers lecturing and research on the Political Economy of Southern Africa at the National University of Lesotho (NUL)-1983-2002. Since 2003, he has served as a Development Consultant for Private Foundations, Bilateral and Multilateral Development Agencies in Lesotho, South Africa and SADC Region.
Professional Roles and Directorships
Member of Presidential Labour Market Commission in South Africa (1995/1996). The Commission report was presented to President Nelson Mandela, June 1996.
Co-researcher for Institute of Global Dialogue (IGD) – South Africa for SADC Future Scenarios Project: Southern Africa in 2020 (1997-2000). Collaborated in researching the SADC Future Scenarios book and production of the SADC Scenarios video.
Fellow of Leadership and Public Values Programme of United States - Southern Africa Centre (Duke University (USA) and University of Cape Town / Graduate School of Business (UCT/GSB), 2007/2008.
Member of Review Team of Global AIDS 2031 report on HIV/AIDS Trends in hyper-endemic SADC Countries (including Lesotho) at the Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF), April 2010, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Member of Board of Directors and Strategic Planning Committee Chairperson - Southern African Regional Poverty Network (2005-2007), Pretoria – South Africa.
Member of the Brenthurst Foundation Development Policy Network on Globalization and Economic Success: Policy Options for Africa Sessions held in Singapore, 2005: Egypt, 2006 and South Africa, 2007.
Facilitator of Private Sector inputs in the development of Lesotho – Millennium Challenge Corporation - MCC (USA) Compact in 2005. MCC & Lesotho Government implemented a five year compact (2007-2013) of US$ 362 million to support water and health infrastructure, Private Sector Development and economic growth projects in Lesotho.
Facilitator of SADC Civil Society preparations for SADC International Conference on Poverty and Development (ICPD) held in Mauritius –18 – 20 April 2008.
Member of Board of Directors of Mineworkers Development Agency (MDA) of National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), Johannesburg, South Africa: 1996 – 2014. I am currently facilitating the organizational review and turn-around strategy of MDA in 2014.
Consultant on monitoring Busan Aid Effectiveness Principles and Global Partnership for effective development cooperation from July 2013. Also facilitated Lesotho preparations for Mexico High Level Meeting (April 2014) on the Busan Principles on Aid Effectiveness and Agenda of Action.
Member of Board of Directors of Momentum - Metropolitan Insurance Company - Lesotho (2011 - 2014).
