2009 International winner
Mr. Thabang Sebetoane of Dr. Reginald Cingo High School in Kroonstad won an International prize in 2009 for Challenge 14: Science and Technology.

All the contestants were honoured during the Awards ceremony that was held; 25th February 2011 at Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA).

GMP-SA's Call to Participate

Stakeholder participation and support are invited in 3 key areas:

Role Requirements
Sponsors
  • Financial support (R550,000 for the first year, and preferably recurring at about the same level for at least 2 years thereafter
  • In-kind support towards process or funding items
  • During the pilot, these were mainly COFISA/DST and SA Node. Additional sponsorships were received for prizes (from Wits P&DM and Tshwane computing)
Champions
  • Nationally, and possibly regionally, GMP-SA Champions will drive the GMP-SA process.
  • During the pilot, this was the SA Node.
Implementation partners
  • Vehicles for implementation
  • Promotion
  • Raising sponsorship
  • During the pilot, these were mainly the Free State Dept of Education and SAASTA.

The GMP-SA initiative depends on this support being garnered by South African institutions and individuals. The initiative welcomes ideas and engagements with all interested parties.

Funding Required

The following summary presents the main support items anticipated in continuing to promote the GMP-SA annually:

Project coordination and support personnel: The personnel requirement for the effective coordination and management of the GMP is the greatest cost. It is necessary to have a competent manager who can provide ongoing direct support to the role-players and contestants, preferably on a full-time basis.
